Ich habe eine Weile drüber nachgedacht, ob ich das wirklich bloggen soll. Aber immerhin sind Schafe zu sehen, und Schafe können auf einem Strickblog nicht völlig fehl am Platz sein, oder? Es geht halt um Kunst, oder zumindest den Versuch kreativ zu sein, und wie Ihr wisst bin ich keine Künstlerin. Design und Kunst liegen vielleicht auf dem Kontinuum aller möglichen Karrieren nahe beieinander, aber sie sind definitiv nicht dasselbe. Andererseits muss ich Euch einfach das Bild zeigen, das Jenna für mich gezeichnet hat. Deswegen nun doch der Post.
Aber von Anfang an. Vor über einem Jahr haben Jenna und ich beschlossen, einen Kunstaustausch zu machen. Einfach weil´s so schön ist. Die Regeln waren einfach: Wir würden Jenna´s Medium benutzen, nämlich Blei- und Buntstift, und mein Thema wählen, nämlich alles rund ums Stricken, also Schafe, Nadeln, Wolle, alles Gestrickte usw. Das fanden wir ziemlich gerecht.
Ich war ziemlich nervös überhaupt anzufangen. Wenn Ihr jemals Jennas Kunst gesehen habt, wißt Ihr warum. Nicht einfach da gegenanzustinken. Nach einem Jahr hatte ich endlich den Mut anzufangen. Dabei mußte ich feststellen, dass ich meine Idee mit Bleistiften nicht wirklich umsetzen konnte. Jenna hat mich die Regeln abändern lassen, sodass ich auch Aquarellfarbe verwenden konnte.
Ok, jetzt zeig ich´s Euch einfach mal, dafür ist ein Blog ja schließlich da.

I´ve been thinking for a while if I should post this. It´s a bit off-topic. But then it´s about sheep in a way, and sheep can never be really off-topic on a knitting blog, right? The reason why I wasn´t sure if I should write about this is because it´s about art too, and I´m not an artist, so it´s not even good art. Design and art might be neighbours on the contiuum of possible careers, but they are just not the same. On the other hand I really need to show you the drawing my friend Jenna sent me. So I will.
I will start at the beginning though. More than a year ago we, that is Jenna and I, decided to do an art swap. The rules were to make a drawing that would show anything knitting-related, no matter how loose the connection. So it could be sheep, knitting needles, yarn, knitted items and a thousand more things. That´s because we wanted to be fair; we would be using Jenna´s medium, pencils, and my topic, knitting. Pretty just, right?
I cannot even begin to tell you how intimidated I was by this. I don´t draw, I don´t paint. It took me literally a year to master the courage to even get started. Then I found I could not make the motif I chose work with pencils. Jenna let me bend the rules, so in the end I used water colours. And so I´m putting it out there – that´s what blogging is for, after all.

Sie grasen vor dem Leuchtturm Westerheversand. Als Vorbild habe ich ein Foto aus dem Netz genommen, das mir Google gezeigt hat. Ich mußte nicht einmal ein schwarzes Schaf dazuerfinden, es war schon im Originalfoto drin. — Ich bin ganz schön stolz, dass ich es tatsächlich geschafft habe. Es sind eine Menge Schafe. Natürlich sehe ich jetzt auch die Fehler in der Perspektive und mit den Farben, aber das ignoriere ich einfach mal.
They are grazing in front of the lighthouse of Westerhever at the Western German coastline. I used a photo from the web as reference. I didn´t even have to think of adding the black sheep myself, it was in the original image. — I´m kind of proud I pulled it of. Those are quite a few sheep. Of course I see the errors I made with the foreshortening and colours – but I´ll happily ignore that for now and celebrate my first watercolour image in ages.
