Lineares Mystery Shawl

Starting on October 8th, we will be knitting a comfy shawl together in my ravelry group Janukke Strickdesign.  It is going to be a mystery-KAL. I am telling you about it now so that you have a few days to organise and get your yarns and needles ready. If you need a little longer than that, it´s not a problem at all. The first clue isn´t elaborate, it will be easy to catch up if you join in a few days late.

The shawl will surprise you with its multi-directional knitting, resulting in a bold-looking construction, along with its interesting fibre study. You‘ll be working with yarns of two different weights. Or, if using the original ITO yarns, namely Wagami, Sensai and Tetsu, you will often work with yarns of two different qualities held together – a truly unique fabric is the result!

For those of you who hear the word “mystery” in the context of knitting for the first time: This means that you won´t know what the finished item will look like when you start knitting and will get the instructions bit by bit in a couple of clues.

Hoku

I really haven´t been blogging much this year, have I? There´s so much to talk about – there just never seems to be enough time for everything.

My last fall pattern has just been released. It´s a pattern for a shawl featuring elements like stripes and dots, silk and merino, lace and dk weights named Hoku. It’s perfect for using up those odd skeins in your stash. The beginner-friendly design looks more complicated than it is, and uses a simple blister stitch to produce the dots. Combining contrasting yarns, such as the soft and squishy Malabrigo Rastita with shimmering silk Ito Kinu, creates the most powerful visual effect. I really hope you like it and will knit many Hokus!

Dies Jahr habe ich wirklich nicht besonders viel gebloggt. Obwohl es wirklich viel zu sagen gibt, scheint nie genug Zeit zu bleiben darüber zu schreiben.

Jetzt ist gerade mein letztes Herbstmuster ist veröffentlicht: Hoku kombiniert kontrastierende Elemente wie Streifen und Punkte sowie glänzendes Lacegarn und kuscheligere Wolle zu einer harmonischen Gesamtkomposition. So eignet sich das Tuch als Projekt für zwei einzelne Knäuel aus dem eigenen Wollvorrat, die man sonst vielleicht nicht zusammen verstrickt hätte. Die Punkte sind viel leichter zu stricken als es auf den ersten Blick wirkt, auch Anfänger sollten keine Probleme mit dem Fototutorial zum Stich haben. Ich hoffe euch gefällt das Tuch und ihr strickt eine Menge Hokus!

Fall Mystery│Herbst-Mystery

Golden, glowing autumn is painting the world in vibrant colours all around us. Though the days may be shorter and the nights more nippy, autumn is also a signal to knitters that it’s time to pick up our needles once more and cast on cozy shawls, socks, and sweaters to wrap ourselves and our loved ones in warmth.

That is why on the 3rd of October, we’ll be starting off the knitting season with a mystery-KAL in my ravelry group.

We’ll be knitting a squishy, cozy shawl in Rosy Green Wool’s Cheeky Merino Joy (or a similar yarn in sport weight). It’ll be an easy knit and a cheerful addition to your favourite fall outfits, but the full design will only be revealed as you knit along with the clues! (All techniques will be explained in the clues.)

I will tell you this much: Texture is the hero in this design.

We’ll be working with four colours:
• Main colour: 320 m (350 yd)/100 g
• Contrast colour 1: 192 m (210 yd)/60 g
• Contrast colour 2: 256 m (280 yd)/80 g
• Contrast colour 3: 32 m (35 yd)/10 g

For the contrast colour 2 I suggest using a dark shade (or use the darkest of your light shades), and for contrast colour 3 use an accent colour. To give you some ideas, I have put together a few colour variations in clue 0, which is already available through ravelry.

Starting on October 3rd, a Saturday, the following four clues of the MKAL will be published every Friday morning, and the complete pattern will be available on November 7th.

During the KAL-period there the pattern is with a price of only 3.40 euros more than 20% cheaper than the regular price of 4.40 euros, for which the pattern will be available from November 7th on.

So schön der Herbst mit seinen goldenen und kraftvollen warmen Farben auch ist, draußen wird es kälter, nässer und dunkler. Aber wir stricken es uns gemütlich! Schönes und Wärmendes für die Schulter und die Seele gegen die nahende Winterkälte. Zusammen lassen wir hier unter Freunden die Nadeln klappern und machen es uns kuschelig.

Am 3. Oktober starten wir deswegen in meiner ravelry-Gruppe mit einem Mystery-KAL in die dunkle Jahreszeit.

Gestrickt wird ein wollig-weiches Tuch aus Rosy Green Wool, Cheeky Merino Joy oder einem vergleichbaren Garn in “Sport”-Stärke. So viel sei hier verraten: Bei dem Design spielt die Textur die Hauptrolle. Es ist ein einfach zu strickendes, flaches Tuch mit viel Effekt. Alle verwendeten Techniken werden in den Hinweisen erklärt.

Benötigt werden vier Farben:

Hauptfarbe: 320 m/100 g,

Kontrastfarbe 1:  192 m/60 g,

Kontrastfarbe 2: 256 m/80 g und

Kontrastfarbe 3: 32 m/10 g

Für die 2. Kontrastfarbe empfehle ich einen dunkleren Ton als für die anderen Farben, für die 3. Kontrastfarbe eine Akzentfarbe. Zur Inspiration habe ich im Hinweis 0 verschiedene Farbkombinationen für Euch zusammengestellt. Dein Hinweis 0 könnt ihr auf ravelry schon jetzt erstehen.

Am 3. Oktober wird der erste Hinweis veröffentlicht, die folgenden vier Hinweise gibt es dann immer freitagmorgens. Und am 7. November schließlich ist das komplette Muster erhältlich.

Wer die Anleitung zum KAL vor dem 3. Oktober kauft, zahlt einen Euro weniger als nach der Musterveröffentlichung. Ab dem 7. November ist die Anleitung dann zum regulären Tuchmusterpreis von 4,40 Euro zu erhalten.

Hat bei Euch auch das Weihnachts-Handarbeitsfieber begonnen? Wer schon jetzt beginnt, kommt am Ende nicht unter Zeitdruck. – Ich gehöre zu denjenigen, die das ganze Jahr über Geschenke sammeln, inzwischen habe ich alles zusammen. Das macht die ganze Saison sehr entspannt und es bleibt mehr Zeit für Freunde und Familie … und natütlich zum Backen.

See the Rhythm ist ein gutes Projekt, das man so nebenher stricken kann, z. B. während man gerade unterwegs ist, sich abends mit Freunden trifft oder einen Film anschaut. Denn das kraus rechts gearbeitete Tuch besteht ausschließlich aus rechten Maschen, was es auch zu einem guten Tuch für Strickanfänger macht. Die rhythmischen Streifen machen das Stricken auch für Fortgeschrittene StrickerInnen interessant; je nachdem welche Farben man wie kombiniert, schrill oder gedämpft bzw. harmonisch oder dissonant, entsteht ein Stück mit völlig neuem Charakter. Mit dicker DK bzw. Bulky Wolle verstrickt, ist es im Nuh fertig.

Has the Christmas-crafting frenzy reached you already? If you start knitting your presents right now, you still have plenty of time to finish everything until Boxing Day. – I am one of those who like to collect presents all year long, so I already  have everything I need. This way the season is very relaxed and all my time is free for friends and family … and for baking, of course!

See the Rhythm is a great project for on-the-go, you can easily work on this while talking to friends, or while watching a movie as this garter stitch shawl is made up solely of knit stitches. So this is also a very good project for beginners. Rhythmic stripes will keep the advanced among you interested: Combining shrill or muted, harmonic or dissonant colours makes up a very personal composition. Worked in DK or bulky weight yarn, the shawl is very quickly done.

Hattet ihr schon einmal das Gefühl, ihr würdet mit euren Nadeln den Sonnenschein einfangen? Das ist mir mit diesem Tuch passiert. Und zwar letzten Sommer, als ich es gestrickt habe. Die ganze Zeit habe ich an Sommerferien am Strand gedacht, ich konnte die salzige Luft riechen und die Brandung hören. Jedes Mal wenn ich das Tuch ansehe, macht es mich glücklich und ich fühle mich im Gleichgewicht mit mir und der Welt. Ich hoffe, das geht euch genau so, falls ihr es auch strickt. 😉

Concha wird mit 4 mm Nadeln gestrickt. Die Maschenprobe ist für das Ergebnis  – wie oft bei Tüchern – nicht so entscheidend. Anja, meine Freundin und mein Model hat mir die Wolle geschenkt. (Auf den Fotos seht ihr allerdings mich.) Sie hat die Seide im Portugalurlaub erstanden. Deshalb habe ich mich auch für einen portugiesischen Namen für das Tuch entschieden. Concha bedeutet “Muschel”. (Da fällt mir auf, dass ich eine Menge Wolle geschenkt bekomme. Ich beschwere mich kein Stück. 😉 )

Also, greift jetzt zu und ordert das Muster und holt eure Nadeln hervor! Feiern wir den Frühling mit unseren Nadeln.

Have you ever had the feeling a knitting project would make you catch the sunshine with your needles? This project did this to me. Knitting it up last summer I was constantly thinking of a summer vacation at the beach, I could smell the salty air and heard the wash of the waves. Every time I look at the shawl it makes me happy and I feel at ease with myself and the world. I hope it does the same to you!

Concha is knit with DK weight yarn and 4 mm needles, gauge is not crucial for this project. The yarn was a gift from Anja, my friend and model. (In the images that´s me though.)  She got the silk on her summer vacation in Portugal. That made me choose a Portuguiese name. Concha means “shells”.  (I am just noticing that I do get a lot of yarn gifted. I´m so lucky.)
