My name is Jana. Here on the blog I am writing about knitting, which I (re-)discovered in the summer of 2008. The only experience I had with knitting before that were some stitches with my grandma in my early childhood. (My 5-year old self: ´Yes, thank you, I can do the knit stitch now, why repeat it 1000+ times?` I wasn´t too impressed. Lol.) That fateful summer of 2008 was when I found out that my adult self actually likes to experiment with knitting needles. So very early on I started to do my own thing, instead of following patterns. Soon I began writing down what I did.
To me this initial experimenting phase is the best part of the designing process. I like to have an idea, to sketch it, to make a swatch, to rip back and to start again until I finally have a knitted piece where everything falls into place in seemingly effortless beauty. Then I write it all down so that other knitters can enjoy my findings as well. And it just amazes me that this really works! It´s a magical thing that my words can be translated back into knitting. Add to that the creativity of knitters worldwide and the many variations they come up with on a single pattern plus the fact that the internet allows me to find out about it, to make the modern knitwear designers´ life – my life – just perfect!
I am working with yarn of any weight, ranging from lace to bulky. My patterns are available in English and German. The older ones all have an illustrated appendix explaining the techniques used with detailed, step-by-step photo tutorials. So if you are not familiar with any of the used techniques, the pattern will teach you how to master the manoeuvre. The newer patterns, i.e. all patterns that have been published in 2014 or later, do not have this feature unless I am using a really unique technique. The reason is that I found the tutorials slowed me down a lot and I already do not have the time to write down all the ideas in my head. I still provide a key to all techniques used and sometimes link to video tutorials, and, as I said, make my own photo tutorials if a technique is too rare to find another source for it.
All my patterns are professionally tech edited and test knit. They are available through my ravelry pattern store. You will find helpful general information about the purchasing process in the FAQ. If you have more specific questions regarding my patterns, you can post them in my ravelry-group, write an email to jana(AT)janukke(DOT)com or use the contact form. Of course, you can also use these routes to get in contact for any reason, I love to hear back from knitters! Even though I take great care in writing my knitting patterns, mistakes happen. If you come across one of them, please be so kind and let me know. This way I can correct them and future knitters will thank you for it.

Hallo und willkommen auf meinem Blog!
Ich bin Jana und schreibe hier über das Stricken. Sommer 2008 habe ich festgestellt, dass ich gerne mit meinen Nadeln experimentiere. Ich mag es, so lange zu herumzuprobieren, bis das gestrickte Werk genau dem Bild in meinem Kopf entspricht. Dann schreibe ich auf, was ich entdeckt habe, damit andere StrickerInnen auch etwas davon haben. Es ist ein gutes Gefühl, wenn Strickerinnen meine Anleitungen kreativ umsetzen. Und ich mag es, dass immer noch etwas dazukommt, was dem Charakter der Strickerin entspricht: eine Farbkombination, auf die ich nie gekommen wäre und die einfach nur richtig ist, eine spezielle Technik oder ein anderes neues Feature.
Was mir am Designen am meisten gefällt, ist die Phase des Experimentierens. Mir gefällt es, eine Idee zu haben, sie an einer Maschenprobe zu testen und dann so oft zurückzuribbeln, bis ich mit dem Ergebnis vollauf zufrieden bin und ein scheinbar anstrengungslos schönes Strickstück entstanden ist. Wenn es so weit ist, halte ich alles schriftlich fest, damit ihr auch was davon habt. Und nach all den Jahren fasziniert es mich immer noch, dass es wirklich funktioniert. Meine Worte können tatsächlich zurück in Gestricktes übersetzt werden. Dann verleihen kreative Strickerinnen weltweit dem Muster ihre eigene Note. Und dank Internet finde ich das heraus! Was das Leben einer modernen Designerin – meins! – ziemlich perfekt macht.
Ich arbeite mit Wolle jeder Garnstärke; von Lace bis super dick, im englischen Sprachraum bulky genannt, ist bei mir alles dabei. Und auch in Sachen Designs bin ich nicht festgelegt. Je vielseitiger, desto besser!
Meine Muster gibt es auf Deutsch und auf Englisch. Die älteren Muster enthalten einen bebilderten Anhang mit den verwendeten Techniken. Wenn man also eine davon nicht kennt, bevor man anschlägt, ist die Anleitung gleichzeitig ein kleiner Strickkurs. In den neueren, genauer gesagt allen Anleitungen seit Januar 2014, habe ich darauf verzichtet, weil es doch sehr aufwändig ist und irgendwie auch so schon nie Zeit ist, alle Ideen zu Papier zu bringen. Manchmal gibt es schon noch Fototutorials, aber nur wenn die Techniken so ungewöhnlich sind, dass Google nicht bescheid weiß. Aber immer ist eine (Foto-lose) Erklärung aller Techniken dabei. Alle Muster sind gründlich testgestrickt und über meinen ravelry-Store erhältlich. Genaueres dazu gibt es in den FAQ, den häufig gestellten Fragen. Speziellere Fragen zu meinen Mustern können in meiner ravelry-Gruppe gestellt werden und ihr erreicht mich auch direkt über E-Mail [jana(AT)janukke(PUNKT)com] oder über das Kontaktformular. Wer mag, abonniert den Newsletter und wird über Musterveröffentlichungen und KALs informiert. Das sind etwa ein oder zwei Newsletter pro Monat, ihr werdet also nicht mit Mails bombardiert, das ist versprochen.
Natürlich kann es trotz größter Sorgfalt passieren, dass sich Fehler in die Muster einschleichen. Wenn ihr das Gefühl habt, auf einen gestoßen zu sein, sagt mir bitte bescheid, damit ich ihn korrigieren kann.
